Being That Icon

About That Girl, yes That Icon.

We've heard so many things about Being "That Girl", do this if you want to be that girl, do that... and so on and so forth. The thing is there are so many aesthetics that we can choose from. On top of that, choosing an aesthetic means being part of a group or being part of a clique. Well, let's be honest, once we're there, we're forced to stay there and if ever we want to leave, the rebrand is exhausting. Truth is, depending on who is advising us to be That Girl, it will look different and sound different and even is a different aesthetic and ideology. Now what if I'm not about to be boxed in and want to be That Icon?

But what if I don't want to choose? What if I'm just me? What if I change my mind on a daily basis? What if I'm just That Icon today?

I guess the question is "What is That Icon?"

✦ What is That Icon?

Being That Icon is such a different vibe. It's bolder, warmer, and more. I really like Italy and I was looking for the term Kissed in Italian (baciato/a) which is where this idea came from. Being That Icon is all about being on the warm, cozy side, but somehow embracing the bolder version of ourselves. It's a life, a desire, a seduction, a moment, a world.

When thinking of the idea of being kissed what came to my mind was when we start to exercise, any kind of exercise and we are not in deep but we already start sweating (you know when you start feeling that little heat) - suddenly the sun hits our face and we start seeing that little glow coming from our forehead; it's barely visible, but visible enough to get noticed as if we've just been kissed by the sun, by life, by love, by passion, by anything.

Looking at trends and I see a pattern, no matter what the trend is (except for maximalism - I mean, no offense, but the overuse of logo and color as if they are having a fight and none of them is winning is not doing it for me), what I see is an overuse of darker color palette and mind you that palette is very limited, including black, navy, grey, brown and to add some color let's pour in beige. While these colors are not problematic, what if we add more colors to life? What if we take more risks?

Now the question is: when we talk about being That Icon, what does it really mean? What does it entail?

It's the language of being bold, warm, dreamy and passionate. Let's think about it; being kissed in general feels like having butterfly in our stomach - thinking of a morning sunrise barely there while the sunlight hits the window at the proper time, it's not bright yet but bright enough to be noticed. We're thinking satin finish - melting, blooming.

Beyond that, when thinking of it, it's bold and warm in terms of feeling. One look and one touch and we feel transported. It's cozy, a burning sensation.

A That Icon is the one who isn't afraid to embrace her warmth, being cozy, fun, seductive without losing personality (yes, we can wear bold colors).

✦ That Icon Language: In Beauty and Skincare

When we talk about That Icon in terms of beauty and skincare, we talk about a satin, shiny-looking face and makeup that melts.

To start, we need baciata skin for a great makeup look. Here, we're talking a satiny face - a face so hydrated as if you're pouring oil on a salad, an amazing texture - dewy, shiny, well done, seductive, moist (I'm thinking it too but we know that's not what I mean no).

Any product that provides hydration is a go-to. I recently discovered Korean skincare because I have very dry skin and I can't tell you enough how in love I am with these products. Under-eye patches and pimple patches became my best friends.

Once, our skin is shiny, it should be easy to now proceed with our beauty routine as makeup should glide on our face, a dewy foundation, concealer, and the regular beauty routine with setting powder. It does get exciting at the blush and lip part. We definitely prioritize creamy blush and I prefer blush sticks - it's easier to apply and control. Now for the eyes and highlighter, we go for darker colors such as bronze, dark green, burgundy, moody colors with a dab of a lighter color around the inner corner of the eyes.

Lips - my favorite. Let's give our routine personality That Icons, let's have a bold lip. I like to play with contrast and often tend to have a bold lip. In this case, let's go with colors that have a warmer shade such as deep or bright red, coffee brown, red leaning burgundy, etc.

Finally, let's not forget our body, we need body highlighter or shiny mist with a gold or champagne undertone or gold glitter.

The entire goal is to feel as if we've been kissed by the sun, kissed by love and kissed by life itself.

✦ That Icon Language: In Fashion

Fashion is my passion!!!!!! (I'm so excited). Something about it just sits right with me.

As That Icons, we need to play with colors while embodying the bolder side. Balance is the key to any outfit, including a Balance. Balance can be texture, silhouette, and more. But let's focus on Baciata, it means balancing colors and textures at once. Always having a pop of color in everything we wear.

If we're feeling all black, why not add a red top to enhance the outfit. If we're feeling all burgundy, why not add a beige, maybe even a green top to enhance the outfit. If we're wearing a leather skirt, why not wear a silk blouse or cotton stretch top. But be careful there, color and texture match can be tricky! Try one at a time.

The key here is Balance (Yes, we got this!).

✦ That Icon Language: In Lifestyle and Wellness

I know, I know. Everywhere we go we see matcha, every time we scroll, we see matcha as if it's the only drink that exists. But lifestyle and wellness is more than that.

In terms of wellness, let's exercise - no, not pilates, let's do some dancing: salsa, latin, and high heels or sensual dance, anything that forces us out of our comfort zone into moving. Why not sip a cup of hot chocolate instead of matcha after a workout.

In terms of lifestyle: let's normalize mocktails and cocktails - things that have flavors and bring us genuine joy. A virgin daiquiri is my go to anytime I want to feel cozy and warm after a long day. Taking a long shower. Spritzing perfume focusing on rose and jasmine scent. Fully enjoying life.
